ABOUT SKUNKS
Two stories about two skunks:— In Hankins, New York, a skunk with its head caught in a glass jar advanced on Louis Hoffman seeking succour. Discretion struggled with valour in Louis’ mind. Valour won. He released the skunk and held his breath. The skunk shook its head, fixed Louis with a grateful eye, and made off without adding anything to the tense atmosphere. In Pittsburgh, Will Stevenson, aged 11, with a bow and arrow, shot dead a skunk which invaded his parent’s home. That got rid of the skunk, but not the scent. The family can’t move because the youngest son, Sherwood, has got the chickenpox. The air is thick, and the fumigators will be around.
