OBITUARY
MR JAMES DUDSON Well known in the Te Puke and Maketu districts, Mr James Dudson, forth son of Mr and Mrs William Dudson, pioneer settlers of Kaiapoi, died recently at Tauranga. Mr Dudson was born in 1862 at Kaiapoi and in 1891 became associated for some years with his brother in the flaxmilling industry at Foxton. In 1900 he came to Te Puke and for some time was in partnership with Mr J. Geraghty at the Paeroa flax mill. Pie then settled on property in the Te Tumu district and started a flax mill there, later taking up farming. When the Te Tumu Drainage Board was formed, he was elected the first chairman of the board. Mr Dudson later became occupied with flaxmilling and farming at Thornton and went to Tauranga to live in 1940.
He is survived by wife, one daughter, Sister M. Sylvia, of St. Joseph’s Convent, Matata, and three brothers, Messrs. Joseph Dudson, of Carterton, Philip Dudson, of Whakatane, and Walter Dudson, of Gisborne.
