WHAKATANE BOWLING CLUB CHAMPION SINGLES With perfect weather and fast greens, the Champion Singles competition was commenced on Saturday last. Thirty-two bowlers .started off in the first round and the competition continued all day, many close and exciting games being played. By evening five rounds had been played, leaving two rounds and the final to be played on Saturday next. Great credit for steady play must be given to R. Morpeth who is the only contestant left with two liVes, his opponents (all two lifers) were J. Rutherford, E. Grant, C. R. Coates, W. S. Henderson and G. Oswald. The one lifers left in are C. W. Good, P. Smoljan, C. R. Coates, L. Berg and G. Oswald. C. W. Good lost his first game to M. Merito, but defeated in succession J. Rutherford, R. Murphy and L. Bennett. P. Smoljan defeated' R. Murphy in the first round, lost to W. Henderson in the second round and defeated in succession R. Spong, E. Grant and R. Wilson.

C. R. Coates defeated M. Merito in the second round, lost to R. Morpeth in the third round, and defeated L. Littlejohn and A. Carling. L. Berg defeated W. Compton in the second round, P. Dixon in the third round, lost to G. Oswald in the fourth round and Henderson in the fifth round. G. Oswald defeated L. Bennett, H. Dainton, A. Carling, L. Berg and lost to R. Morpeth.

The draw for the sixth round to be played on Saturday next is: R. Morpeth (two lifers) versus C. W. Good (one lifer). One Lifers: P. Smoljan versus C. R. Coates; L. Berg versus G. Oswald. Ordinary Draw Following is the result of games played on Saturday last:— E. J. Bell, J. Alexander and L. Luxton 22, J. Anstis, R. Salmon and Rees 16. Bullot, Robinson, Shapley and McIsaac 23, Sumner, Davis, A. C. King and C. Pearson 13. P. Campbell, J. Bell, J. Wilson and E. Currah 24, R. Gerring, R. A. Smith, C. White and G. Caisley 14. P. Sims, R. Stewart, A. White and C. Hayward 23, W. Smith, S. McGill, H. L. King and J. Warner 13. Championship Pairs The championship pairs will now be played on Saturday, March 15 (not March 1) at 9 a.m.
