EXPORT MEAT KILLINGS

QUARTERLY PERIOD FIGURES

Export meat killings for the period Ist October, 1946, to Ist February, 1947, show a decrease of approximately 1500 tons over the corresponding period for last season, states the New Zealand Meat Producers Board. In view of the fact that last season’s climatic conditions resulted in the early slaughtering of stock, the comparable position to date is extremely satisfactory. Stock continues to come forward in excellent condition, the average weights of sheep and lambs, especially those killed in the North Island, being appreciably ahead of those for the same period last season. Export killings to the Ist February are set out below with the corresponding figures for the previous season in parentheses:—

Lamb (c/cs) 3,452,064 (2 1,598,422) Wethers (c/cs) 167,504 ( 149,789) Ewes (c/cs) 242,185 ( 276,810) Beef (qrs) 73,009 ( 94,953) Porkers (c/cs) 8,654 ( 33,559) Baconers (c/cs) 67,030 ( 103,694)
