“Seduced Into a Sale”
A statement that a woman accused had been “seduced into selling liquor to a policeman in disguise,” made by counsel in the Auckland Police Court recently, gave rise to some laughter among Court officials, police and solicitors. In suggesting that the information against the woman should be dismissed, counsel pointed out that she was about to enter the mental hospital for treatment. “That is a good way to get out of it,” commented Mr J. Morling, S.M. However, the solicitor handed in a medical certificate and remarked that a period in the mental institution would be equal to one in prison.
