ROWING

TAURANGA REGATTA CREWS FOR NEXT SATURDAY \ - ■ (By “Canvas”) During the last two weeks the members of the local club have been in solid training for the Tauranga Regatta next Saturday. Every night there are three or four crews out on the water with their respective coaches in the coxwain’s seat. These coachs give the crews what is known as the' - “works” with the result each crew is improving all the time. The fortnightly trial fours were abandoned this weekend so that the regatta training should not be interrupted. This will be the first time for many years that the club has entered four crews at any one regatta. The following are the crews:—

Junior (open weight). This race is for rowers who have had one winning season as maiden rowers: F. Price (s), H. Armstrong (3), B. Cutler (2), D. Stewart (1). As this crew is comprised of all pre-war rowers big things are expected of them.

Open maidens for crews who have not had a win in this class in previous seasons: L. Carey (s), E. Hunt (3), G. Dines (2). G. Moore (1). This crew has performed very well up to date so let’s hope they keep it up.

Light Maidens (10 stone and under). This is usually a hard class to compete in: W. Rivett (s), D. Debreceny (3), B. Fitzgerald (2), A. Atkinson (1). This is a very light only averaging about 9st. Gin. but have great possibilities if they keep at their training. Youths Fours (under 21 years): D. Keepa (s), P. Armstrong (3), R. King (2), A. Edmondson (1). An extremely young crew in a very hard class but should give a good account of themselves on Saturday.
