Oranges Were Plentiful
Recalling the “good old days” before 1932, when New Zealand received ample supplies of citrus fruits, Mr H. E. Radley, a Christchurch auctioneer, told the RotaryClub that it was quite common in periods of over-supply for mandarines to be sold at up to 40 a shilling, with oranges as many as 20 a shilling.
