HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITIONS COLD, UNPLEASANT CONDI- . TIONS In very unpleasant conditions the annual swimming sports of the secondary department of the Whakatane District High School were held off the old wharf last Friday. Had it not been for the fact that the tide was the only suitable one for a fortnight, the meeting would have been postponed. >As it was the cool wind and lack of sunshine deterred many who had entered for the various events from actually taking part. Most races were keenly contested, however, and some close finishes were witnessed. The following are the results:— Championships 100yds Senior Boys: J. Wano 1, K. Dines 2, J. Of these results a team has beem selected to represent the school at the annual swimming meeting of the Bay of Plenty secondary schools at Te Puke next week.
