L.P. Branch Meetings As advertised in a recent issue, the ordinary meeting of the Whakatane branch of the N.Z. Labour Party will recommence as from tomorrow evening and will be held in the Methodist Hall.

There appears to be every indication for what one prominent man said. recently to a BEACON representative, that within three years he fully expected the population of Whakatane to be 5000. Training of Male Nurses

The Whakatane Hospital Board has received notification from the Health Department, that prevision has now- been made to train male nurses along similar lines of those adopted for Nursing Aids. Persons interested were asked to contact the Nurses and Midwives. Registration Board, Wellington.

Hospital Statistics Statistics presented to the monthly meeting of the Tauranga Hospital Board for the Te Puke and Katikati hospitals revealed the following : Te Puke hospital: Admissions 17, discharges 8, average 9.5; Katikati hospital: Admissions 9, discharges 8, remaining patients 3 and average 2.6.

Guide Movement in Malay States An interesting and instructive address will be given in the Parish Hall tomorrow evening by Senior Guides Codlin and Bawn, who have recently returned from the Malay States after assisting to re-establish the movement there. The general public is invited, but a special invitation is extended the youth organisations of town and country to attend.

Doctor For Te Whaiti

In answer to an enquiry the Whakatane Hospital Board has been notified by the Health Department, that Te Whaiti has been designated a special medical area in which Dr. Allan Gort would be operating. Mr H. C. McCready at last Thursday’s meeting intimated that the Maoris in Te Whaiti had received excellent treatment from the Rotorua Hospital, and had actually signed a petition objecting to being severed from that district. The Board decided to make further enquiries. Women’s World Day of Prayer ' We would remind our readers that the Women’s World Day of Prayer for Missions will be Friday, February 21. The theme for the service is “Make straight in the desert a highway for our God,” and the offertory is to be forwarded to the Churches’ Missionary Fund in India. The programme has been prepared by Mrs Isabel Caleb, member of the faculty of Ewing Christian College, Allahabad, India. The local service this year is to be held in St. George’s Anglican Church at 2.30 p.m.
