LAND FOR TRAINING

BALLOT FOR WHAKAMARU 122 SOLDIERS TAKE PART The ballot for the remaining two lots, Nos. 3 and 4, in the Whakamaru block, comprising 90 and 120 acres respectively, took place at the Opotiki Courthouse last week. Prior to the taking of the ballot, Mr Strawbridge stated that the houses on the properties would be ready in March, and the successful men would be expected to take up employment early in that month. Beside drawing for the first choice for each lot, a second and third marble was also drawn in case the property was not accepted by the first man.

The District Rehabilitation Officer, Mr N. Perry, Mr W. A. Gault, and Mr P. Twigg (R.S.A.), were present, Mr Gault drawing the marbles. A number of soldiers interested in the ballot were also present. The successful men were:—

Lot 3: Edgar Ross Blue (Ohinewai). Second and third choice were: Roy Alexander McGougan (Whakatane), and Gordon- William Spencer (Te Puke). Lot 4: Patrick Fulton McAsey (Hamilton). Second and third choice were: John Arthur Warsop (Auckland), and Herbert Nevill (Rotorua).
