OPOTIKI RAM FAIR SATISFACTORY PRICES The first ram fair to be held at Opotiki took place on Friday last, when a total of slightly over 200 rams were offered by Messrs. Dalgety and Co. Ltd. and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. in conjunction. The bulk of the entry comprised rams offered on account of local breeders, both in the Romney and Southdown sections, and the quality of these was well up to the best offered at any of the fairs in the larger centres. There was a good attendance of buyers with keen competition throughout but the bidding for the Southdown rams was particularly spirited and a total clearance of the yarding was effected at prices which must have, proved very satisfactory to the breeders concerned. Following are some of the realisations:— Southdown

On account of Mr Charles Gordon (1 shear) 13j and 13|gns, (2 shear) 14|gns; on account of Mr R. D. Looney (1 shear) 11 h to 13]gns; on account of Mr E. B. Carey (1 shear) 9 to 11-igns; on account Mr E. Cranswick (F.M.) to 14-igns; other' F.M. rams made 7i to B)gns. Seventeen purebred S.D. lambs offered on account of Mr E. Cranswick made 2gns and 10 P.B.S.D. ewes realised 2Jgns. Romneys

On account of Mr J. B. Stansbury (1 shear) 41 to 6igns, (2 shear) 5 to 6gns; on account of Messrs. Hensen and Green (1 shear) 31 to 6% gns.

The holding of a special fair for the sale of rams instead of offering these at the conclusion of the sheep fair proved an undoubted success from the point of view of both vendors and sellers and it is intended to hold a ram fair at Opotiki each year in future.
