RED CROSS ACTIVITIES
MEETING AT EDGECUMBE STREET APPEAL NEXT FRIDAY A meeting of Edgecumbe SubCentre of the Red Cross was held in Bell’s Hall on February sth, Mrs Mexted presiding. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and final ai’rangements made for the street day to be held in Whakatane on Friday 14th inst. A dinner and other articles will be raffled. All contributions to this appeal will be gratefully received, and Red Cross members are especially asked to contribute. It was decided to withdraw the sum of £4O from the funds in the P.O. Account, and to make the following donations: £5 to Headquarters fund; £5 to Blind Institute; £lO to Crippled Children Fund; £lO to Leper Fund; £lO to Waikato Food for Britain Fund.
A case of soap weighing 441b5., was despatched in December to the British Red Cross, London. A letter of resignation from the secretary, Mrs Jespersen, was read. It is regretted that, owing to indifferent health, Mrs Jespersen feels that she cannot continue doing the secretarial work, but is willing to carry on in that capacity until the annual meeting which will be held on March sth.
