A Stud Loss The death of the Gay Shield mare, Gay Blonde, at Ngatea is reported. She won important events both in New Zealand and Australia. The best of her progeny is Zelandia,. a very high-grade colt. Another For Taranaki The Revelation sprinter, Prince Revel, has been transferred from Ellerslie to H. Dulieu’s stable at New Plymouth. He should race successfully in the Taranaki district. Big Money For Class * The Foxbridge gelding, Kerry Lad, who won two races at the Auckland Summer Meeting for Messrs. Stevenson Bros, of Pukekohe, to a Sydney sportsman, the purchase price being 3000 guineas. The same owners’ Legal Folly, a two year old by Solicitor-General was' &lso secured for Australia at 2500 guineas.
A Valuable Acquisition The very latest addition to Mr N. E. Fitzgerald’s Gisborne thoroughbreds is a filly foal by Balloch from Valdore, thus a half sister to Kindergarten and Golden Souvenir. In the meantime its value cannot be assessed, but probably it could not be purchased for just a few thousand pounds.
The Riding Championship W. J. Broughton 42, N. Holland and R. B. Ireland 19 are at present at the top of the Dominion’s winning list of riders for the season.
A Bargain Trotter The trotter-, Punctual, winner of the King George Handicap at Forbury Park was recently secured from Mr R. McEwan, Dunedin, by Mr S. Hands for the munificent sum of two shillings. Punctual promises to pay his way during the rest of the season.
A Rotorua Cup Winner Just now Corot is not running up to winning form, but hopes are entertained in respect to his Rotorua Cup prospects, a race he has won on three occasions.
Big Stakes Winner By winning the Wellington Racing Club Handicap Golden Souvenir increased his winning total to over £17,000, about a thousand pounds more than won by his half-brother the champion Kindergarten. The chestnut is quite likely to increase his winning score in Australia during the autumn.
A Solid Performance
During the present season Swift Quarry has experienced more than one interruption to his preparation, but is evidently now moulding into form. His second at Trentham to Indian Gold in the Summer Handicap, the mile and a half being run in 2.29 -2-secs, a tick over the N.Z. record being a very fine performance as he conceded the winner 131bs in weight.
Silver Stick For Gisborne
The Beau Pere sire, Silver Stick, has been purchased by the Lysmar Estate, Gisborne, from Mr R. B. Hines, Te Afoha, and will be a real acquisition to his new district. In respect to winners Silver Stick has a very high average, which is likely to be fully maintained. The Best Three Year Old The honour of being .the Dominion’s best three year old this season has been awarded to Beau le Havre by Beau Repaire—Bretty Brown (imported).
