THE OHOPE SURF CLUB (?)
THE recent tragedy at Ohope Beach, brings immediately to the controversial foreground the burning question ot quickly re-establishing the Surf Club, which did some fine patro and rescue work before the war. The Club already hak a pavilion (unfortunately in a bad state of neglect) ana a look-out. A certain amount of gear is likewise still at the beach. Like a good many other organisations, the Club went into recess during the war years. Today however it is high time that it was reorganised. Indeed the residents of the beach should insist upon its resuscitation, & neither time nor money should be stinted in placing an efficient and properly equipped life-saving patrol on the beach. Old members of the Club, will rally again if public support is forthcoming. In the past, this has been conspicuous by its absence, but the need is so urgent today, if we are to avoid a repetition of the terrible tragedy of the weekend that local bodies should not hesitate in giving the required lead and by example and application ensure that the Club shall be launched on a proper footing, and shall not lack in finance.
