American Fruit Packs

A tribute to the quality of apples .and pears and the high packing standards maintained in the United States, where fruit growing was •really big business, with an annual production of about 500,000,000 •cases of all fruits, was paid by Mr _J. H. Parker, assistant general manager of the New Zealand FruitGrowers’ Federation, in an address do orchardists. The American growler strived to give satisfaction to the consumer. The New Zealand growers in production methods were ahead of other countries, but were behind in packing and transport methods and in marketing. In one part of Canada a small valley produced 9,000,000 cases which were packed by 50 packing sheds. He did not see one packing shed on an individual orchard. Each packing shed had adequate cool storage, which -was a great advantage in maintaining the quality of fruit, particularly ;pears.
