BOY SCOUT CAMP
SCENES AT LAKE ROTOMA
BUSH EXCURSIONS AND SPORTS With the splendid summer weather still holding, the Boy Scout camp at Lake Rotoma, which has brought together lads from all parts of the Bay of Plenty may be classed as one of the most successful to date. Under control of Commissioner C. G. Lofley, the boys who are formed into self-contained patrols are carrying out their own cooking and bushcraft work. Each day immediately after flagbreak, the whole camp is inspected and points awarded for the neatest and tidiest tents and cooking plants. The days have passed pleasantly in swimming, bush excursions and sport. On Wednesday last something akin to a regatta was staged and with the assistance of a number of borrowed boats swimming and rowing races were indulged in.
On Sunday last the whole camp adjourned to the taller bush where a junction was made with a unit of the Rotorua Boys' Brigade, under Captain Pasheur. A joint service, which was held in the open air and which also drew a number of visitors was thoroughly enjoyed, officers from both movements taking part.
The highlight of today's proceedings will be the camp-fire this evening to which will be invited visitors, parents and any others interested. In the past the camp-fire programme has been good entertainment, and it is expected that this will be no exception. The camp breaks up tomorrow, all units dispersing by the afternoon.
