NEW SAWMILL VENTURE
LOGGING AT B.S.L. MILL A steady stream of heavy logs from the bush at Te Whaiti have been received at Messrs. Boon Sullivan and Luke’s new sawmil at the rear sections of Commerce Street. Mainly rimu, the logs are transported by heavy trucks and are held in readiness for the first cutting operations at the mill, which is expected to be completed within a fortnight. Approximately 15,000 superficial feet in log, are accumulated on the skids, and this supply will be steadily augmented as time goes on. It is the intention to maintain the mill at full cutting capacity a feature which will be a real asset to the adjoining timber yards which in the past have been dependent upon supplies from bush mills at Manawahe, Rotoiti and Te Whaiti. Timber supplies will be assured in a far more satisfactory flow than is at present possible when the sources of supply are in such keen demand from all parts of the Dominion. The greatest interest attaches the mill and its operations, which apart from bringing new residents to the Borough, must assist very materially in relieving the heavy demand of the present day.
