AERO CLUB
NEW GROUND SELECTED AREA NEAR PIRIPAI Prior to the holidays the Whakatane Aero and Gliding Club received notification that the area at Awakeri (Luxton’s paddock) was not suitable for use as a landing field, and as such could not be registered on the official Dominion list. Objections raised were based mainly on the obstructions created by trees and power lines in the vicinity. The club has been actively engaged in a further search for a suitable field has negotiated for an area of Maori-owned property near Piripai, and near the Golf Course. This new proposition should have wide appeal, there being no obstructions whatever in the vicinity and the nature of the land being sandy and light and level. The whole area could be quickly brought into conformity with the regulations at a minimum expense. There is over 100 acres and as soon as it has been passed as suitable for listing as an official landing field steps will be taken to pui-chase, lease or partlease the properties. The club hopes to commence actual training later this year.
