A BIRD IN THE HAND
The water-logged Scot lay gasping on the deck. He had just been rescued from drowning and was duly grateful. ' Looking up at his rescuer, he exclaimed: “Thank ’ee, mon, thank ’ee. Gie me your name and Ah’ll remember ye in my will.” His impecunious deliverer gazed down at him for a moment, and then replied: “Ah, guvnor, Ah’m no desarving o’ such an honour. Suppose ye just cut me off wi’ a shilling right now?”
