ANNUAL OVERHAUL
PAPER MILL ACTIVITY THE' CLOSE-DOWN PERIOD A small*army of fitters and workmen are now busily engaged at the Whakatane Paper Mills, which has instituted the longest close-down period on record (two and a half weeks). The mill will open again on Friday, January 10, thus allowing the normal staff the full holiday period off plus the four additional statutory days. Repair work and renewals are in full process, and the staff now employed is composed of electricians, fitters, welders and carpenters. It is anticipated that with the new pulping unit to be installed production will be assisted forward very substantially in the new year.
