LITTLE GIRL’S DEATH

WHAKATANE WEST TRAGEDY DROWNED IN SHALLOW WATER A particularly sad drowning fatality occurred last Saturday when a little 19 months old girl, Maureen Joy Tooke, the infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Dean Tooke, of Whakatane West, fell into a shallow creek near her parents home and was drowned. She was noticed playing i around the house, and when missed shortly afterwards was found face downwards in the water which was barely a foot deep. The discovery was made by the child’s grandfather who was staying in the house at the time. The inquest will be opened before Mr C. S. Armstrong, District Coroner, today.
