WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT THORNTON The Thornton Women’s Institute held its final meeting for this year in the hall on December 12th, Mrs Robb presiding. There was a good attendance of ladies and two new members were enrolled and welcomed. Details were arranged for the social evening on Saturday night and arrangements made for a picnic at White Pine Bush on February 1. All members with their families and friends were invited. The first meeting for 1947 will be an outdoor one and will be held in Mrs Robb’s garden on February 13. The Institute welcomed Mrs Armstrong, of Otakiri, who gave some very / useful suggestions which should help greatly in the formation of a Glee Club. Mrs Robb expressed thanks and presented Mrs Armstrong with a box of roses. A humoorus sketch entitled “Sing a Song of Sixpence” given by five members was much enjoyed. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting closed with the National Anthem.

Prizes for the day were as follows: Best flower, Mrs Robb 1; Mrs Dudson 2. Best vegetable, Mrs Mexted 1; Mrs Watts 2. Peasant apron, Mrs Ducker 1; Mrs Watts 2. Christmas cake, Mrs Hyland 1; Mrs Watts 2. Original Christmas card, Mrs Ducker 1.
