MAORI VOTING
Sir, —I would like to try and express some of my surprise and disgust re Charles Holdsworth’s letter in.N.Z. Herald 10/12/46. Daring to suggest a kind of “finger print identification” for next election for the Maori people. That anyone would have the cheek to suggest such an insulting procedure. In the first place it amazes me & I wonder if the writer stopped to think or wonder whether we Maoris would tolerate such an insulting practice which is almost the same as criminal .identification, but thank goodness such suggestions are* in the minority. If Mr Holdsworth is at all expecting us to be pleased to have our thumbs and fingers smudged with ink to suit him or anyone else he has a “bigger think” coming to him and may I be allowed to quote a pakeha proverb appropriate to the occasion. “Do unto others as you would be done by.”
Yours etc., W. BIDDLE-COLLIER.
