SCENIC HIGHWAY

THREE MORE BRIDGES

ALL-WEATHER ROUTE !

Some 20 years ago the promise was made that the Opotiki-Gisborne scenic highway would be made an all-weather route in a very short period. Since that time numerous promises have been made but the years have rolled by and the road is still occasionally blocked to traffic when heavy rain falls. It appears that at long last the promises are to be fulfilled and three bridges are to be constructed between Te Araroa and Potaka.

The coastal road is reported to be in good condition for the holiday traffic although there are some corrugated sections. Once again the scenic highway is likely to have heavy holiday traffic, following the release of ample petrol supplies. The section in the vicinity of Waihau Bay appear to be exceedingly popular with campers.
