SCOUT BREAK-UP
HAPPY CHRISTMAS MUSTER
THORNTON TROOP THE GUESTS
Over a hundred Scouts and Cubs took part in the Christmas break-up gathering held in the Caledonian Hall last Wednesday evening. Guests of the occasion were the members of the Thornton Troop and Pack, whilst it was also good to note the presence of several members of the newly-formed Rover Crew.
Proceedings were under the control of Commissioner Matthews who welcomed the parents present and also the members of the visiting committee. The evening passed happily in games and items by the boys, including an interesting ‘go-ing-up ceremony’ from the Cub Pack to the Scout troop. Excellent items were supplied by Miss Pauling Marshall of Wellington, who proved herself an elocutionist of a particuarly high standard, and by Miss Sonia Croll of Opotiki, who provided two warmly appreciated Highland d'ances. Mr C. Zinsli, chairman of the Citizen’s Committee, expressed • the goodwill of the townspeople towards the country Scout units and said he hoped that the Thornton boys would be able to attend other gatherings held in the Borough. Commissioner Matthews conveyed his £ood wishes to the assembly and the County Commissioner also gave a short address.
The evening concluded with a light supper served by a band of ladies under the capable control of Mrs Zinsli.
