RAM-CHAMPION SHEEP FOR • URUGARY
Great progress has been made in the Corri.edale breed in the various South American countries, but probably in Uruguay the breed has developed to' a higher level than in any other part of South America. Since the resumption of the export trade to this part of the ■ world, many high-class rams have been sent from Npv Zealand to - that country and at the recent Christchurch ’Show several ram hoggets that had been sold at very high prices, in the vicinity of four figures, were competing. Although some prize winners were included amongst these high priced sheep a ram that created the very keenest interest among breeders was an outstanding woollyhogget from the famous Hui Hui Flock, the property of the Estate of H. T. Little, Woodgrove, North Canterbury. The combined venture of four judges had awarded this ram the champion hogget prize with which goes a special Challenge Cup donated by Messrs. ■ Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. The highest previously paid was 1000 guineas for a rani bought on behalf of an Australian breeder. The purchaser of the new world’s record priced ram is Senor Mario Pascual, 18, do Julio 1076, Montevideo, Uruguay, who is establishing a new Corriedale Stud on his model stud farm in Uruguay. Senor Pascual, who is without doubt a most enterprising buyer, also purchased 9 prize winning ewe hoggets

These included first, second and third prize winners in a class of 25 ewe hoggets in the wool, first, second and third prize winners in the pair of .ewes class in which there were 11 entries, and the first and third prize ewes in a class of 16 shorn sheep. Senor Pascual has also pur- ;■ chased a number of other high-class ‘which, collectively, must provide one of the finest' foundation ewer flocks ever sold for from the Dominion, u '
