NEW HOSPITAL
NOT READY FOR TWO YEARS At Thursday’s . meeting of the Opotiki Hospital Board, the secretary, Mr East, -reported that 'during his early morning conversation over the phone.-with Dr. M. H. Watt, Di-rector-General of Health, at Wellington, Dr. Watt had remarked that one thing was that the board would have no difficulty in coming- to a decision as to whether to build a new hospital. The decision has now been made, and the board intends to, push ahead as fast as possible. There should be no delay with ground plans, but it is usually a matter of some months before the architects can settle working plans and specifications with the Health Department. Then the approval of the Local Government Loans Board and the Works Department must be obtained before tenders are called. It is expected that it will be two, years before the hospital is ready for oc-cupation.-At a subsequent meeting of the board, Mr East pointed out that there would be no doubt that the hospital rate fot; 1947-48 would be the maximum of .5d in the £ on capital value.
