STUDIO CHATTER

A FEATURE COLUMU “AFFAIRS OF SUSAN” Athletic Champion Signed Since the discovery of. Esther Williams, beautiful swimming champion star, another feminine athlete has been signed to a long-term contract by M.G.M. She is green-eyed Marie Windsor, who won the title of “Best Horsewoman in Utah” whilst still a University student—and in that hard-riding Western state, that’s some title. Producing Stage Show Robert Montgomery departed for New York a few weeks ago to begin his first work on the New York stage in 16 years. He is returning, howdver, not as an actor, but as producer and director of a new play called “The Big Two.” Montgomery was a Broadway star before he deserted the stage in favour of movies in 1930., , - .1 Comparative Size j Jerry Austin, the dwarf actor, of Warner Bros.’ “Saratoga Trunk” has a great fear of horses, but despite this, he groomed a team of carriage horses for a scene in the picture. When he finished the ordeal, he was shaking. “I can’t understand why you are afraid of horses, Jerry,” commented Director Sam Wood. “They’re among man’s best friends.” “Figure how you’d feel alongside an elephant,” replied Austin. “That’s the way a horse looks to me!” REGENT “Affairs of Susan” (Sat. 14, Mon. 16)— Joan Fontaine, George Brent, and Dennis O’Keefe make a splendid team in the weekend Regent show, named above. It is a romantic comedy, and has been adjudged everywhere by critics as splendid entertainment. It is, by the way, the Academy Award winner Joan Fontain’s first comedy of this particular nature. “Practically Yours” (Tues. 17, Wed. 18)—Another romantic comedy, the angle and standard of which can be surmised from the star names listed. Claudette Colbert and Fred Mac Murray hold, the leads, whilst the late Robert Benchley, in his own inimitable manner supplies humour and fun. The trio forms probably as strong a romantic-comedy cast as could be wished.
