AWAKERI MEETING
On November 19 the Awakeri Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its last monthly meeting of this year in the Awakeri Hall, Mrs Haultain presiding over a good attendance. This meeting was to have been held in Mrs D. MacDonald’s garden, but as the late frosts had spoilt her flowers, the garden meeting was postponed till next year. After the reading of the Creed, correspondence was dealt with. Information was received from the W.I. and W.D ; Co-ordinating Com-, mittee reforming Drama Classes for instruction by Mrs Rutherford, Drama tutor who will be in the district in the New Year. A. sub-com-mittee was formed to encourage the formation of mixed classes. A discussion took place concerning the forming of a Drama and Music Circle. It was decided to enter an Awakeri W.D. Cdurt ’in the Summer A. and P. Show and members were asked to bring entries for the display. A Roll Call “Where were you born,” disclosed that three of the members were born in England, two in Australia and only one in Wha- ■ katane. After afternoon tea impromptu speeches created much interest and amusement. The month’s competition winners were as follows: Best lettuce, Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs Hyland 2, Mrs Matchitt 3. Best fruit, Mrs N. MacDonald 1, Mrs Barr 2, Mrs Rust 3. Best flower, Mrs Roberts 1, Mrs Knight 2, Mrs N. MacDonald 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Knight. 1, Mrs Matchitt 2,. Mrs Hyland 3.
