SCOUT JAMBOREE

WHAKATANE NOMINEES TEN NAMES SUBMITTED The names of ten boys have been received from Whakatane District Scout Troops, as nominees to attend the World Scout Jamboree which is to be held in France next year. At a meeting of the Local Association last Monday evening, the following names were handed in:—Whakatane: Scouts Eric Dockray and E. Stewart. Thornton: Scouts Harry Newton, Walter Reynolds, Gordon Scott and John Mexted. Edgecumbe: Scouts Roy Ranby and Colin Vickery. Awakeri: Scout Melvin Cooper. Otakiri: Scout James Steenson. All the above were approved, and the names will go forward to Dominion Headquarters together with the necessary deposit of £SO per head. The chances of these boys of joining the New Zealand contingent may be considered more or less official, although there is the natural reserve on the part of Headquarters, to make any last minute eliminations. However, there is every prospect that the boys will be participating. From the Bay of Plenty, it wottld appear ndw that 18 Scouts have been nominated, and three Scouters. This means that the district will rank among the highest in the Dominion for representation in the 300-boy contingent which is expected to leave here in June of next year.
