Messrs. S. S. Shapley and I. B. Hubbard have been duly gazetted as new Justices of the Peace.

Mrs P. Clark, of Wellington, is at present visiting her neices, Mrs L. G. Bennett and Mrs J. Brown, of Whakatane.

At a recent meeting of the Whakatane Bowling Club it was unanimously decided to elect Mr W. Baxter a life member in recognition of his 32 years active association with the Club.

P.f.c. Kenneth Murray, son of Mr and Mrs Geo. Murray, of King Street, has returned to Whakatane after three years service with the American Forces, during the course of which he was decorated for gallantry on Okinawa. For the past few months he has been stationed in Sydney, N.S.W., where his work has been in connection with the. motor pool, and he is now awaiting his final discharge.
