TIMELY RESCUE
SCOUT’S BRAVE ACT BOY SAVED FROM DROWNING While swimming in the Otara River last week two boys got into difficulties in a deep part of the river near Victoria Park where the river is about 20 feet deep. Had it not been for the timely arrival of a third boy a drowning may have occurred. The two boys involved were John Dalrymple aged 12 and his brother Miles Dalrymple aged 8 years. John was doubling his brother across the river when the younger boy became frightened and began to struggle placing both boys in danger. At that moment Henry Parkinson, aged 13 years, arrived at the riverto bathe and saw the plight of the two boys, Miles having sunk below the surface. Henry immediately removed his > clothes and plunged in, bringing Miles to safety. John struggled out on his own, both boys having taken in a quantity of water. Henry Parkinson is a member of the Opotiki Scout Troop and the movement is endeavouring to secure recognition of his brave act.—Opotiki News.
