ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

WHAKATANE CLUB

There was a. good attendance of golfers at the annual general meeting of the Whakatane Golf Club held on Wednesday evening. In presenting his annual report, the President, Mr L. W. Luxton, said that the season just closing had been most successful. There had been a record membership, and, with further golfing material becoming available, the future of the club looked bright. The Labour week end Tournament was an outstanding' success, marred only by boisterous weather. It would appear that owing to the popularity of the tournament, it would be necessary to limit the number of entries for the next fixture.

He urged members to support inter-club matches to the best of their ability, reminding them that there was a time when members were only to glad to visit ther courses which at one time were better than their o>vn. He wished to record his thanks to the last season’s Club Captain, Mr J. G. Connell, who had been the ideal mam for the position. Mr Luxton expressed a wish to retire from the Presidency after six years in office. He had enjoyed splendid support during that time in spite of the : anxious times and hoped that the club would continue to run harmoniously. The meeting expressed its appreciation of Mr Luxton’s leadership, as a’foundation member and president through the strenuous war period. Votes of thanks were accorded the ladies, the car owners and the local Press.

The following office bearers were elected for the coming year:—
