RACING NEWS & VIEWS

At Long Last Ka Ora, on whose Ellerslie victory a win dividend of over £220 was paid out, is a six year old mare by Solicitor General from Princess Rawene. This was her only win in the last five years, but judging by the class of hacks she defeated further successes may be in store for her. She was bred by the late Mr John Porter, Kinloch Stud Little River. Although she has a pedigree of classy lines she only realised 80 guineas at the 1944 National Sale.

N.Z. Cup and Stewards With the events to be run at Riccarton on Saturday, the present favourites for the N.Z. Cup are Golden Souvenir, Chung. Chong, Signal Officer, Longs word and Thornbridge. For the Stewards Handicap the leading fancies are Leigh Barton, Soneri, Deprive, Derene, Specialist and Theocritus. Riders in N.Z. Cup In the N.Z. Cup Chung Chong will be ridden by G. Hughes, R. E. Humphries has been engaged for Signal Officer, while G. G. Hampson will have the mount on Western Front. The N.Z. Oaks The Nightmarch—Praise filly, Regal Praise, a member of F. W. Davis’ Avondale team, is to be taken to the N.Z. Cup meeting to contest the New Zealnd Oaks. Owned by Mr E. R. Worth, of Putaruru, a win for the consistent filly would be a popular one. England’s Leading Owner The Aga Khan with 15 winners of 30 races and stakes £22,224 heads the list of winning owners in England up to November 1. Not For Sale Mr V. Romino, Melbourne, owner of the champion, Bernborough, is day by day receiving inquiries and offers for the horse from all parts of the world. He now definitely states the horse is not for sale, as in all probability he will set up a stud in Melbourne in the near future.
