On The Schooling List
Whackie, has been put on the schooling list by the Racing Conference, which means that for the future he may only compete in hurdle or steeplechase events. Last season the Robin Goodfellow colt, Brown Derby, was placed on the list for erratic behaviour at the starting barrier. Apparently he has since altered his wayward habit, and the ban has been removed. He will make his reappearance with the colours up this week. New Events The Wellington Racing Club programme has included two new races in its January fixture, the Desert Gold Stakes for three year old fillies and the Gloaming Stakes for three year olds of either sex. The Wellington Cup Some time ago the Wellington Racing Club fixed the „ maximum weight for the Wellington Cup at 9.7. This has now been altered to 9.12. A Derby Winner The V.R.C. Derby winner, Prince Standard, is by the ex-New Zealand sire, Mr Standfast, a half-brother to Beau Pere, Gay Shield and Balloch. When in this Dominion Mr Standfast was owned by Mr Tims, Te Awamutu. Photo Finish Camera Experiments in connection with the photo finish camera were made in Belgium as far back as the year 1911. A green thread stretched across the track six feet from the back, when broken by the winner, released the shutter of the camera. The Great Hurry On Line Russia, who carried the top weight 9.0, in the Melbourne Cup and won by over five lengths, is by Excitement from Lady March. Excitement is by England’s top line horse Hurry On from Steponovna by Stefan the Great.
