Eclgecumbe Scout Concert
Tomorrow evening the Edgecumbe Scout benefit concert takes place in Bell’s Hall. A splendid programme has been prepared including, artists from town and district. All who enjoy first class entertainment and who likewise desire to assist forward the local Scout movement are cordially invited to attend. .
Stabilised Price?
The visitor to Western Samoa was rowed ashore from the ship for 1/-, said Mr Harvey Turner in an ad-' dress to a luncheon meeting of the, Auckland Travel Club. More than' 30 years ago when Samoa was under German administration the charge was the same. “I don’t think you will find anything else in thispart of the world that is still the' same price as it was 30 years ago,” added Mr Turner.
Increased Membership
At the quarterly meeting of the District Executive Committee of Young Farmers’ Clubs of the Eastern Bay, which was held recently at. Taneatua, it was intimated that the nine clubs in the district showed a total membership of 200. The clubs in question included Taneatua, Awakeri, Whakatane District High School, Thornton, Edgecumbe, Obotiki, Waimana, Otakiri, and Opotiki District High School.
Noisy Hospital Wards
The fact that owing to the absence of cushioned linoleum, in the new Women’s Ward the amount of noise caused' through the traffic up and down the main corridor was a; source of annoyance to the patients, was discussed by the Whakatane Hospital Board on Thursday. It was pointed out that with the regulation type of footwear for nurses, being strong working shoes it was almost impossible to eliminate the noise, but it was decided however to enquire into the possibility of staff members wearing rubber shoes.
Man Found Dead
A single man, Jack Archer, aged about 55, was found dead at Paerata Ridge on Saturday. Deceased who had been suffering from heart' trouble and was under medical care, left the residence of Mr" .J. Burns and was walking across to a neighbour’s when he apparently collapsed and died on the side of a hill, where he was found some time later. As far as is known he had no relatives in New Zealand. For some time he had been employed in Opotiki and was fairly well known. In view of the known state of his health an inquest was not held.
