YOUNG FARMERS

DISTRICT EXECUTIVE

QUARTERLY MEETING HELD

The quarterly meeting of the District Executive Committee of Young Farmers’ Clubs of the Eastern Bay of Plenty was held last Tuesday at Taneatua, 23 delegates being present. Mr H. C. White (Nukuhou) was in the chair.

The meeting decided, after some discussion, that it would prepare courts for the forthcoming 1947 Winter Show,, as in the past. After further discussion, it was resolved that A. and P. Societies of the area be asked to run a porker competition as an extra class, and in the usual manner.

The Y.F.C. Cricket Competition was discussed, it being intimated that the question of obtaining gear was the chief difficulty. Mr F. Sterling (Waimana) offered to present a cup for annual cricket competition among local clubs.

-Further resloutions decided the holding of the annual stock judging contest to take place early in February. It was resolved that the annual stock judging contest should take place eai'ly in February 1947, and also that the collection of moneys towards the Y.F.C. Memorial Wings to be attached to the two agricultural colleges, Lincoln and Massey, should be proceeded with. (The wings in question will represent a Dominion-wide effort, and will be erected at a total cost of £20,000. They will provide members of New Zealand Young Farmers Clubs with short course facilities). A short discussion also concerned the Shield, presented by the District Committee of Young Farmers’ Clubs for general club efficiency throughout the year. Delegates to attend the Provincial Council Meeting at Whangarei this week were elected in the persons of Messrs. J. Hawkin (Edgecumbe), H. S. D. White (Waimana) and G. Yeoman (Taneatua).
