WHAKATANE CLUB MEETS

EARLY N.Z. ISSUES .STUDIED

The highlight of the November meeting of the Whakatane Philatelic Society which was held last Wednesday evening was a talk on the little-known side-face issues of 1884, by Mr C. R. Coates. The attendance was good, and Mr H. O. Garaway, president, was in the chair.

A cordial welcome was extended to Mr L. Carter of Edgecumbe, who is a member of the Royal Philatelic Society, and who also had some excellent specialised collections for exhibition.

A competition set by Mr Warren Kirk, Was won by Mr T. Dixon, and aroused considerable interest. A large number of stamps changed hands, and it was decided to make the December meeting an ’ exhibition evening whereat all who attended. would be expected to bring a collection or mounted series of stamps for display.

The meeting closed with a dainty supper served by the ladies.
