CHILDREN ENTERTAIN
KNOX SUNDAY SCHOOL CONCERT
A DELIGHTFUL PROGRAMME
Definitely the most popular Sunday School concert in the history of the Knox Presbyterian Church took place in the Caledonian Hall last Tuesday evening, when approximately 300 people witnessed a programme by the children and their teachers, which was well up to the standard of any previous performance.
The concert was the annual event, always linked with the anniversary services in the church. Last Sunday, over 100 children attended the special services in the church, and were accommodated on a special raised platform, facing the congregation. Special choruses and solos were a feature of both morning and the evening services, which were taken by the Revs. Gardner Brown and Bell respectively.
/ The concert programme on Tuesday can be safely described as the most popular of its kind- seen in Whakatane for many years. All items, from those by the tiny tots, to the more adult concluding assembly were particularly well' produced and handled. They were a definite tribute to the interest < and training of the Sunday School teachers ,and the officers of the Boys’ Brigade and Life Boys Companies. The Nursery Rhymes section by the infants was exceedingly good, and was carried out as only the toddlers can interpret such scenes. The choral act “Rendezvous” was likewise a very pretty and effective little scene, in which Mrs Te Hira Fergusson’s voice was heard. to good effect. Another pretty little interlude was afforded by the solo and chorus, “Lullaby Land,” with Shirley Whyte as the soloist. The waxworks, and Parade of the Nations provided a good final touch to the whole concert, the latter being a very spectacular and impressive item in itself.
The Rev. Bell, in thanking all who had assisted in the promotion of the concert paid special tribute to the respective class teachers, the Superintendant, and to Mrs F. W. Lysaght, pianist. Items were presented as under:— Choruses: Sunday School Scholars. Junior Choir piece: “Jesus Thou Art Everything To Me.” “Nursery Rhymes”: The Infants. Song: “Nai’cissus” Miss D. Stewart with actions by Junior Girls. Monologue: “Touchin’ Fings” Bruce Mollgaard. Pipe Item: Don McKenzie and Russell Hurst.
