PLUNKET APPEAL WEEK
SAVING the babies has been the consistent responsibility of the Plunket Society organisation throughout New Zealand over the past thirty-five years. The success it has achieved in this vital work, may be guaged from the remarkable statistics which changed New Zealand’s infant mortality rate from the highest in the world to the lowest, and has as a result made this country the envy of all national minded and progressive nations. Whakatane has its own voluntary branch of unselfish workers who are sponsoring this allimportant work. Funds are the greatest problem at the present juncture, and next week has been set aside for a special appeal in the course of which a house to house canvass will be made. Plunket' in this town and district requires £l5O to meet its commitments. The sum a mere bagatelle by comparison with the great task which has been undertaken’,by this quiefly efficient organisation, which has ever given its services free of charge to the mothers of the Dominion, and has pledged itself to the healthy constitution and right-thinking of the New, Zealanders ,r of the future. No one will refuse the collectors in next weeks appeal which will culminate in the usual Plunket Shop day on Friday the 22nd. Give therefore to save the babies and help Plunket make a living investment in the future welfare of our land.
