Winter Sweet The Hawke’s Bay sportsman, Mr T. C. Lowry, has named his Foxbridge filly Winter Sweet. She has not been hurried in her preparation, but as a galloping proposition is highly assessed at Hastings. An Improving Baffles Hulabaioo, who finished a good third in the Wellington Handicap, will not be started again until the New Zealand Cup contest. The Baffles—Prickles seven year old gelding has been steadily improving this season and is evidently a thoroughbred with a strong constitution. Auckland Candidates The Auckland Province is represented in the N.Z. Cup by Chung Chong and Balgowan. It is a question whether the latter can be fully ready by .November 23 for a twomiles contest, but if so should be right among the leading division in the final dash. Sleepy Fox, the Dominion’s leading sprinter, by virtue of his speed and weight carrying ability, hgs competed in 53 races for 14 firsts, six seconds and five thirds. To date, he has won £12,191 in stakes. He was bred by Mr L. W. Davis, of Te Aroha, ,who won many races with Noble Fox, and will be represented on the turf this season by Master Coronach by Coronach —Lady Lulu, a sister to Sleepy Fox. Not Quite Ready

When Kindergarten was saddled up to contest the Harcourt Stakes it was readily seen that he had not been, through a thorough preparation. But he finished third in heavy going, although- he was somewhat tender in the fore legs as the result of the effort. , Making a Recovery The Coronach colt, Keening, who won at Trentham a year ago, but met with a serious accident a fortnight later, at Riccarton, is making a good recovery as shown by the good race he ran in the Wellington Guineas. Favourites for N.Z. Cup The present favourites for the N.Z. Cup are Golden Souvenir, Signal Officer and Longs word. First In, is still in Melbourne, but it is stated will be brought back, to Riccarton in time for the Cup.

Another Nizami Winner At Randwick last week the Juvenile Handicap 'was won by the Nizami filly, Nizami’s Ring, who was having her third start this season.
