GALATEA SETTLEMENT
BALLOT FOR NEW AREA
ELEVEN SECTIONS INVOLVED
Of special interest to ex-service-men is the offering by ballot, closing 18/11/46, of more sections at Galatea.
The areas range from 134 acres to 188 acres and are complete with all buildings new.
Due to the retarded conditions of some of the farms, the successful Ballotees will be placed on a wage basis to commence with. It is expected that the farms will be ready for dairying on the Ist July, 1947, when the successful applicants will be placed on a wage plus bonus for the 1947-48 season. They will later be offered the farms, provided development has reached the stage to justify individual occupation. This method of allotment in anticipation, is designed to ensure that the ex-servicemen will not be placed on an uneconomic farm, and that they have an opportunity to assess the merit of the property before accepting final settlement. It is interesting to know that Galatea is growing in popularity. In seeking Farm Grading from the Rehabilitation Department, an increasing number of ex-servicemen indicate a special interest in Galatea and prefer settlement there. With the allotment of the sections now being offered, there will be a total of 34 ex-servicemen placed at Glatea, through the Rehabilitation Department.
