“BLITHE SPIRIT’
Iturbi Sets Record Jose Iturbi is one of the top-re-cording artist in the world. He was informed by his recording company that sales of his piano records topped those of any other concert artist for the second successive year. Sudden Switch
Like so many other stars whose careers were never intended to take them anywhere near stage or screen, Spencer Tracy entered Ripon College set on becoming a doctor. However, he decided to transfer to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts—a switch that certainly has proved profitable.
Busman’s Holiday A busman’s holiday is the choice of Xavier Cugat and his band when they find time between scenes. While other stars relax in their dressing rooms, Cugat and his bandmen keep right on playing, but instead of giving out with their famous rhumba music, the Latin Americans do takeoffs on other well-known bands.
New Zealand Interest Van Heflin has been added to the star cast of “Green Dolphin Street”. He will play the part of Timothy Haglam, the mill-owner who be-, friends William Ozanne when he first arrives in New Zealand. Reginald Owen is to portray Captain O’Hara of the sailing ship “Green Dolphin,” and Linda Christian will portray the Maori girl. They Now Prefer Brunettes
Thanks to Lana Turner, brunettes are now coming into their own. Over five hundred Lana Turner fans have written the star that they’ve switched from blonde to brunette since they heard that the star had gone off the platinum standard for her role in “Green Dolphin Street,” the M.G.M. film for which a whole set of the Wellington (N.Z.) harbour had to be reconstructed in Hollywood.
REGENT
“Blithe Spirit” (Sat. 9,. Mon. 11). A film hailed by more than one critic as Noel Coward’s best comedy —a judgment generously supported by the public. Never has a coward play, successful as most of them have been, enjoyed such outstanding popularity. Within six months of its first performance, it was being played by four companies in England and America. It is typical English comedy, and guaranteed enjoyment.
To Parents
By request of the management of the Regent Theatre, Whakatane, parents are asked to send their children to the Grand Theatre on Saturday afternoon, where a special kiddies programme has been arranged, to mark the opening of the Young New Zealanders’ Club. The Regent film, “Blithe Spirit,” although excellent adult entertainment, is not a children’s picture, whilst the evening programme at the Grand also falls into the same category. From now on, the Young New Zealanders’ Club, which meets every Saturday afternoon at the Grand, will have specially selected films and features which are guaranteed to provide the maximum interest for children, old or young.
