SUCCESSFUL DANCE

FIRE BRIGADE FUNCTION

LARGE CROWD ATTENDS

A very successful dance was sponsored by the Whakatane Volunteer Fire Brigade in the Winter Show Buildings on Friday evening last. A large crowd of dancers from town and district filled the hall to capacity, and to the music supplied by a very popular six-piece Premier Orchestra, five hours of enjoyable dancing were passed. The hall was colourfully decorated for the occasion with flags, flowers and greenery, whilst multi-col-oured lights added to the gaiety of the scene.

Supper was a tasty delight consisting of an excellent selection of cakes and sandwiches to suit all tastes, and was welcomed by the large crowd of dancers. During an interval in dancing, Superintendent Stewart took the opportunity to thank the many patrons for their support, and in humorous vein, added that the ‘partner’ advertised for in the Beacon had proved to have ‘too great a breadth in the chassis’ and could not be navigated through the door, hence her absence.

. Several novelty dances were entered into wholeheartedly by the crowd, and provoked much interest. Dancing concluded at a late hour.
