WHAKATANE BRANCH MEETS

The monthly meeting of the Whakatane branch of the Plunket Society took place on October 7. Present: Mesdames Cairns (in . the chair), Morpeth, Debreceny, Jessop, O'Rourke, Dainton, Patterson, Roach. Apologies were received from the following: Mesdames Spring, King-sley-Smith, Knights, Zinsli, Caisley. The Society is holding its annual street collection on Friday, November 22. A house to house collection will also be made this year.

Miss Lusk, Nursing Adviser to the Council, visited Whakatane on Ist October and met the committee at Mrs Knights' residence. She gave a talk on the reasons for the shortage of nurses. Several districts such as Te Kuiti and Wairoa had no nurses. There was a general shortage throughout the country.. There was not much hope of an improvement in the near future. The wages and hours worked by Plunket Nurses were on the same footing as the Health Department Nurses. . Miss Lusk advised that the Plunket Nurse curtail the home visiting, except in special cases, in to cope with the work at the rooms. Supper was served and Mrs Knights thanked for her hospitality.
