FANCY DRESS BALL
MATATA NATIVE SCHOOL
HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION
A most successful Children's Fancy Dress Ball was sponsored in King's Theatre, Matata, on October 11 by the Matata Native School Committee. The hall was packed to capac ity and over 150 children appeared in a wide variety of fancy costume.
Many parents and friends attended to see the colourful Grand March and the Folk Dancing. Great credit is due to the teachers who by their training were responsible for the dancing display. The following programme of dances was carried out: —Looby Loo, Primer 4 and Standard 2; Punchinello, Primers; Clap Dance, Standards 3 to 6; Jolly Miller, Juniors; I Had A Little Nut Tree, Primers 1 and 2; When I Was A Lady, Primer 4 and Standard 2; Musical Arms, Sleeping Princess, Primers; Oats and Beans and Barley, Primer 4 and Standard 2; Seven Jumps, Standards 3 and 6; Grand Old Duke, Juniors; Winter's Warm, Standard 1 and 2; Tasmanian Glide, Standard 3 and 6; Swedish Weaving, Standard 3 and 6; Chain Waltzes and Gay Gordons were also danced.
Music was provided by the Rhythm Vendors Band and Mr Webber piano accordion. The Filmcraft representative from Whakatane was kept busy all the evening . taking photographs of those in fancy dress.
