MISS GWEN KENYON
21st BIRTHDAY PARTY
The 21st birthday of Miss Gwen Kenyon, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Kenyon of King Street, was celebrated in the Masonic Hall last Saturday, where a large number of friends gathered for a party staged in her honour. The function was excellently conducted by Mr A. O'Rourke, who filled the position of M.C., and the guests, without exception, had a thoroughly enjoyable time. •
Competitions, dancing and community singing were the main features of ,the programme, and all were entered into in a typically happy spirit. The first competition, 'Observations', was won by Mr D. Rowson, whilst a mystery parcel, which went the rounds of the room, and caused much amusement, finally went to Mrs C. F. Thomas. On the entertainment side, Miss Dorothy Stewart sang several vocal numbers, and was encored heartily at the .conclusion of each'. Miss Jean Armstrong" also gave two character sketches, both of which were very well carried out.
A Monte Carlo, was won by Mr A. Head-an<j;,Miss F. Fyfe.
The important event in the evening earner with the cutting of the cake, after-Vtne'rguests had partaken of a delicious" supper of home cooked delieaciesflVlr F. Gardner Brown filled the position of toastmaster very capably and was the one to propose the-toast to the guest of honour, wishing her the best of good luck for the coming years. -Gwen replied,suitably.
•After the remaining toasts to "Mr and Mrs Kenyon" (Mr K. Brabant and Mr W. Kenyon); and "Absent friends" (Mr J. W;"Kenyon); Mr W. Kenyon presented a large symbolical key which, had been, signed by the guests, to his daughter. Dancing continued, and when on the first stroke of midnight, the gathering joined in "singing Auld Lang Syne, each and fevery guest looked back on.a very, "enjoyable evening.' • '" :;i " * ' ; '- ; 51it^ /c -
