FIRE BRIGADESMEN

OPOTIKI DEMONSTRATION

CHILTON CUP TO WHAKATANE

Whakatane Firemen did well at the demonstration at Opotiki over the Labour Day weekend. In the Championship events they won the Chilton Cup and five miniatures (all wet events) and were runners-up in the much coveted Hugo Memorial Shield in which they were beaten by Matamata by only l-sth second.

The Brigades taking part were : .Whakatane, Ngongotaha, Matamata, Opotiki, Te Puke, Mount Maunganui and Tauranga. Rotorua and Rarigitaiki Plains attended* the conference but did not participate in the demonstration. Details of the events were:—

Hawkins Memorial Cup (one man coupling): Matamata 63 4-ssecs 1, Whakatane 64 4-ssecs 2, Opotiki 76 4-5 sees 3. Two-men Hose and Stand-pipe : Opotiki 35 3-ssecs 1, Whakatane 37 2-ssecs 2. Mt. Maunganui 37 3-ssecs 3.

Three-men Disabled Hose: Opotiki 46secs 1, Tauranga 49secs 2, Whakatane 49 3-ssecs 3. Four-men Motor. Event (draw for places): Whakatane 60secs 1, Tauranga 69 l-ssecs 2, Matamata 70secs 3. ■ Hugo Memorial Shield (four-men Hose and Stand-pipe): Matamata 45 sees 1, Whakatane 45 l-ssecs 2, Opotiki 47secs 3.

The Whakatane team comprised Secretary H. Allen, Firemen S. Dent, J. Dent, D. G. McDonald and A. Head. To all these men we extend our warmest congratulations.
