TANEATUA GATHERINGS

INSTRUCTION IN JUDGING

A very enjoyable and instructive afternoon was spent recently by the members of the Taneatua Young Farmers’ Club when they visited the farm of the Estate of Geo. Hill, Taneatua. '

Mr J. Rae Jnr. was present to instruct the lads on the judging of Jersey cows. Four cows were chosen by Mr H. Hill and Mr Rae demonstrated on these cows, showing points to be considered when judging.

The Young Farmers present then judged the cows' the winner of the judging competition being A. Green with 152 points, G. Hill with 145 points was second and R. Hill with 130 points was third. The President, Mr G. Hill, thanked Mr H. Hill for his help in providing the cows for judging and also Mr J. Rae for his very able and helpful instruction. October Meeting ,

The monthly meeting of the Taneatua Young Farmers’ Club was held at Mr E. Hill’s residence with Mr G. Hill presiding over a good attendance of members. There was a Considerable amount of business to be dealt with. It was decided to hold a dance on November 18, the proceeds to go to club funds. As time did not permit of all details being finalised a special meeting will be held for that purpose.

Two debates will be staged at the next meeting, namely Sheep Farming versus Dairy Farming, and Hay Baling versus Hay Stacking. Teams to take part were selected. Mr Brian Butler the guest of the evening, then addressed the club on the Co-operative Pig Marketing Association and received a very attentive hearing.

A very delicious supper served by the hostess, Mrs E. Hill, brought the evening to a close.
