HILLCREST

PROPOSED SANATORIUM

CONSIDERATION FOR PATIENTS

At the last meeting of “the Whakatane County Council, a letter was received from the Minister of Health noting further views of the Council with regard to the site of the proposed sanatorium at Hillcrest. It. would appear, the letter continued, that the Council’s opinion was that the patients’ interests had not been given adequate consideration by the panel of trained medical advisors who chose the site. ' This was very far from being the position as all aspects of the matter were given due consideration before the decision was reachd. A further letter from the Matamata County Council enclosed copies of two letters received from a T.B. patient in support of the abandonment of the Hillcrest site.

Commenting on the matter, the Chairman (Mf J. L. Burnett) stated that the Hillcrest site had been bought, but that the Waikato Hospital had stated that if it were turned down it could be used for other purposes.
